Impact of Trauma on the Developing Child

Session Time

June 27

Domestic violence impacts the majority of families participating in the child welfare system. Subsequently, we are obligated to develop skills and familiarity with the issue in order to improve rather than jeopardize child safety and their relationships with caregivers in homes experiencing domestic violence. This session sets out to offer specific strategies service providers, judges, law enforcement, educators and attorneys can utilize in their work with children and parents experiencing domestic violence by highlighting case examples of successful and unsuccessful interventions. The three critical skill areas are Information gathering; safety planning & service intervention; document writing & reporting in line with the tenets from David Mandel’s Safe and Together Model.
